Round Robbin Block of the Month

 January 2011

As I have been working on the Round Robbin Quilts project, I decided that I would make a couple of blocks from the fabrics I've used in that project. Because this was my center block from my Round Robin quilt, I made up a couple more to start my own Block of the Month. The plan is to make each block 12" square. I think this will be an interesting project for me to do as well. This block starts off this new project of mine.  This block is a mixture of Flying Geese and the Windmill pattern.

I don't have a particular name for this block. As the saying goes:  "It is what it is..." That pretty much describes this block. Its not a perfect block in that the white on the blue flowered material didn't end up to be the same size all around, but hey, when starting out its good to have some goofs to show yourself where you came from when learning how to do things....

March 2011

This is my square on square with stripes. This block is such an odd thing. I've made it 3 different times and each time the green square on white looks like its getting squashed. It didn't make any difference on what size blocks of each I started out with. This block in that respect was getting the better of me. So with the wise words...."It is what it is..." that's what it is. This block has the same colors minus one (black) from the block last month. This was the round on my Round Robin Quilt that I didn't want any black on.  I'm looking forward to what the April block will look like....

April 2011

This block was fun to make. In truth it's 4 bear paw blocks put together. I didn't want to make this block with a stripe in between the paws. When I was making this block for the Round Robin Quilt, it added a entirely new dimension to the quilt. The blue blocks make up all the corners, and it worked out that they were just enough of a contrast to tone down the Round Robin Quilt. I think maybe so far this is my favorite block I've made thus far...

May 2011

Wow! Here we are at the May block and its still April. This block was designed and colored by my husband Chris. I was drawing on my white board making different quilt block ideas. Chris saw this one and said that he wanted this block to be the next round. I told him that I wanted the red to bring out the center of the Round Robin Quilt. So then he decided that the other colors would be the green, and white and both shades of the blue. It is very pretty and when added to the quilt top makes a wonderful design. Look for it on the Round Robin Quilt.

June, July, August 2011

I listed this as June, July, and August because there was a lot of things going on that made this block of the month deadline really hard to keep. This block is called shaded trail. It is a 12" square block. There are 36 - 2 1/2" squares in it. There are 42 seams to this one block if I counted correctly. This square has 32 half blocks and 4 solid blocks. The colors came from the outside. One day after selecting this pattern to try, I was outside. The sky had few little clouds in it (White), the air with the sun out in the morning (Yellow), and the new Spring color of the grass (Green) decided to which colors I was to use. After putting it together I decided that it was warm and friendly and had to go with the Round Robin Quilt that I've been working on. I think you'll agree that this block is quite beautiful...
